1. 足が棒になる- あしがぼになる- Ashi ga bo ni naru – one’s legs are tired. This expression is used when you walk or stand for a long time and get so tired that you feel stiffness in your legs. The concept behind this expression is “ashi” means leg and “bo” means stick, legs becomes stiff like a stick when someone is exhausted or very tired.


2. 二足のわらじを履く - にそくのわらじをはく- nisokuno waraji wo haku – it means wearing two hats at once or have the best of both worlds. The word “waraji” means the sandals that Japanese people used to wear during Edo period. These sandals were made using straws. The concept behind this expression is a person wearing two “waraji” at same time, meaning doing two things together. For example doing two occupation together.
